Spring Seeding: Spring seeding Now, as the weather warms, is the time to seed any damaged areas from the winter and to fill in bare or thin spots. Be sure to loosen the soil, spread the seed, apply starter fertilizer and Penn Mulch. Penn Mulch is a product that helps keep moisture in the soil and keep area moist. Don’t apply pre-emergent crabgrass control to newly seeded areas as it will inhibit the growth of the new grass.
Lawn mowing: Begins early in May. Make sure your mower is tuned up, has a sharp blade and is set to 2.5” – 3” for cutting. First lawn application should be applied. Balanced fertilizer, pre-emergent crabgrass control and weed control, if needed.
Resist Temptation: Don’t be tempted to put your annual flowers and vegetable plants out in the garden until you’re sure the last possible frost has passed. In our area, the end of May is safe. If you tempt fate and plant too early and they do call for a frost, just cover the plants with a sheet for protection and remove the next day as things start to warm up.
JUNE TO DO LIST
Plant Your Tomatoes: When your tomato seedlings have about 5 to 7 true leaves, it’s time to plant them in the garden, that is, if you soil temperature is at least 50 degrees.
