Early Spring To Do List For Gardeners

  • Once things warm up a little and you can start to work the soil, you can divide and transplant fall blooming perennials such as asters, coneflowers and hostas.
  • As the ground becomes workable, add organic matter to vegetable, garden and flower beds.
  • Cut perennial grasses back if they are still left from the fall, and remove debris from perennials.
  • Cut diseased and winter killed rose canes back, leaving three to four healthy canes per plant. Angle cut these 7-8” from the ground, just above a side shoot.
